Junie Kovacs Junie is the heart of Lanta Animal Welfare. Without her, non of this work would be possible. Junie is from Norway and has been living in Koh Lanta for six years now. She runs a business on the beach with 8 bungalows for rent, restaurant and a cooking school. On top of all this she has a great love of animals and has done everything in her power to try and help the poor stray dogs in Koh Lanta. Camilla Hasselvret I was on a two week vacation on Koh lanta in september 2007 when I decided I wanted to make an effort for all the stray dogs who lived on the streets and on the beach. I have never met so many friendly dogs in my life! They were all so grateful for any kind of friendly attention. All the dogs had lots of parasites. They were suffering from constant scratching themselves. They were starving and tried to find something to eat among the garbage left by humans. Many dogs were injured and had infected wounds on their bodies. Also they were tormented by the heat and had trouble finding water to drink. I felt very bad about the animals situation on Koh Lanta so I decided to go home to Sweden and start up some kind of non-profit association to help them. But I needed someone on Koh lanta to transform the donations into actions. So, the day before I went home, I found Junie. And it is my hope that our common project will help make life a little easier for the animals on Koh lanta. |
